I can't wait to get out camping again. Unfortunately the current spate of bad weather is keeping me indoors. I wouldn't normally be put off but it is particularly bad for this time of the year,

I can not wait for the camping festival season. This post is very helpful, I plan to use the list when going through my camping supplies next weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to purchase some cool new gear as well. Have fun in the outdoors.

Hi Camping Guy
I have just come across your blog. I have really enjoyed reading about the differences between camping in the US and camping in Australia. Hope you keep updating the site.

Hey,

Very good post.

I find that drinking plenty and plenty of water is one of the best. But also find taking anti-histamines also... they do the trick nicely.

Keep up the good work :-)

The BEST cooking tool I use is one of these: http://www.campfiregrill.com

The setup is SO EASY, and they come with a bag that you can just put everything into for cleanup later. And just like it says...the food doesn't get lost in the campfire. I leave it set up the whole time we're camping so anyone can use it at any time, and it swings away from the fire when not in use so you don't have to put it all away when you're done using it. Great for the older kids who are always hungry...they can throw a hotdog or burger on for themselves at any time.

Friends have loved them when we've camped together, so I'm getting them as Christmas gifts this year. And...I saw a group of bikers camping out, and they even had one of the smaller ones cuz they were convenient enough to put on the bike!

Hi Jess,

Yes, I've tried a hammock camping and found it to be uncomfortable. I tend to toss and turn during sleep and the hammock didn't really allow me to do that. I guess this would be better for someone that can sleep on their back all night. I prefer the ground with a pad in a tent.

Happy Camping!

Hi The Camping Guy! Have you ever tried camping with a hammock instead of a tent? I've seen some models with canopies and rain flies. Looks like it might be more for setting up camp along a hike than at a campground. What is your experience?

Good tip. I have found that by setting up my tent in the yard I can find and deal with any problems ahead. I went camping once near a hot spring in Montana and we got hit with a rain storm, we rolled up quickly and headed home since it was our last day. Next time I got the tent out in the yard I saw where mold had begun to take over. I just wanted to add my experience.
