Sure-Fire Way To De-stress

No Stress CampingOur world is ever changing and growing which is why we must take the time to reconnect with nature. Nothing is more important to our spirit than observing just how connected everything on this planet is. And with increasing cases of disease and illnesses, related to stress levels, the time we spend relaxing has become a necessity.

When you choose to camp as a form of relaxation, you are offering several things to your body and mind that they cannot experience in a controlled environment like work or home. Beautiful landscape and fresh air awakens the senses and can stimulate the nerves in the brain that, when overworked or unbalanced, cause depression. Furthermore, even the slightest amount of walking or working to set up a comfortable camp site, combined with a fresh environment and oxygen-filled air will increase circulation and blood flow throughout the body.

The natural approach to relaxation and de-stressing can be taken much further, while camping, without excess effort. Chinese teas that detox and regulate sugar levels are delicious and their effects are noticeable within days. Teas with Ginko, Dandelion, and Dong Quai (for the women) are excellent choices. Dandelion and red clover, found in most detox teas, are a great way to cleanse the kidneys and metabolism and

improve mood. Dong Quai is an herb that Chinese women have used for centuries to regulate hormones and blood sugar levels. Ginko is a very popular herb that’s been studied for improving brain function and memory and is also a best seller for Triple Leaf Tea, Inc., which The Camping Guy recommends for the best selection and flavor. You can visit them at www.tripleleaf-tea.com.

Along with teas, of course, cottage cheese and yogurt are a great way to replace the healthy bacteria in your digestive system. These helpful bacteria regulate our metabolism. Fiber also helps the final stages of metabolism and can be found in grains like oatmeal, granola, bran and rice.

For replacing lost vitamins and minerals, fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables are a must. To keep things flavorful, have fresh veggies like broccoli, carrots, celery and tomatoes with your favorite dressing. Fresh fruit is fun to serve with yogurt or a fat free whipped topping and some dark chocolate pieces, as dark chocolate is full of antioxidants and can have a positive affect on hormones in the brain.

So “get earthy”, find some time to relax with Mother Nature and take comfort in knowing that you are stimulating your senses and likely your immune system. Open up to a natural weekend of living as nature intended, despite our rapidly modernizing world.

Happy Camping!
