Who Else Wants to Easter Camp?

Celebrating your Easter weekend is special when you incorporate it into a great camping trip. Springtime is the best time to enjoy Mother Nature; the air is still cool, there’s usually a crisp breeze and since the rains… everything is clean and clear. There are still, however, plenty of campsite ideas, tips and suggestion I have for your Easter camping trip.
Amenities
Camping in springtime brings a few challenges that can be easily conquered with the right attitude and approach. Bugs, for example, are very plentiful in some areas during springtime. So arm your family with plenty of body bug repellents that won’t make them sick, like Herbaria products. Herbaria has both a spray on repellent and a repellent soap that smell great and are completely natural.
Other things you need to also consider for Easter camping is sun block for those bright, windy days and light lotion for dryness.
Activities
Easter camping, of course, should be fun! So try out these things for the kids and teens!
- Good Ol’ Fashioned Easter Egg Hunt: Not only are decorated, hard boiled eggs easy to keep fresh in a cooler full of ice, but they are great with a little salt and pepper and next to a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.
- Competition Basket Hand Out: Challenge the kids to find the most eggs! The one who finds 3 eggs first, gets their specialized Easter Basket (prepared by you before the trip) first! The next one, gets theirs next and so on.
- Ye Ol’ Potato Sac Race: A good old-fashioned potato sack race is a great way to connect with the kids. Even the teens can’t help but compete if there’s a new basketball or bag of candy available as a prize!
- Egg Drop Challenge: Armed with another prize as the bribe for playing, challenge the kids to walk 20 feet (marked by you with horse shoe stakes or flags) while balancing one of their hard-boiled eggs on a spoon. The one who doesn’t drop it there or back, wins! Have a couple of prizes available in case more than one player succeeds.
The Basket
Easter isn’t all about bunnies and baskets, especially for those who appreciate the Christian holiday behind it. It is, however, a great opportunity to share your own personal feelings on the holiday with your family. Some families simply want to celebrate spring while others celebrate Christ. However you celebrate, the baskets that you hand out should reflect your thoughts on Easter. Here are some great ideas on filling your baskets:
- Religious or spring time coloring books, pencils, markers, crayons and erasers
- A personalized Bible or spring time journal for personal thoughts along with pencils and pens
- Colorful toys and balls for children who will want to celebrate spring playing outdoors
- A portable video game system with educational games for the hard-to-please teen (The DS system with Brain Age and My Word Coach games would be awesome)
- Healthy spring foods like fresh apples, strawberries, peaches and nuts
Easter Camping Memory
With the weather being so agreeable around Easter time and so many wonderful campsites to experience all over the states, I hope your Easter camping trip is as good as some of the ones I remember. Moist play areas, silly painted Easter eggs and hot cinnamon buns topped with strawberries on Sunday morning before we hiked one last time for a view of Big Bear Valley…that’s what I think of when I think of Easter. Enjoy!
